Blinddarm weg.

Friday night I had surgery to take out my appendix. I started writing a big blog post about the whole escapade covering the last week, but it was getting really long-winded and I was still on the first 24 hours. I'll figure out what to do with that later.

For those who asked, here are a couple pictures of the wounds. Not very impressive, still have bandages and stuff over them. All clean and shaven, though. I'm really afraid to pull on the little plug in my belly button.

Below for your viewing pleasure is somebody else's laparoscopic appendectomy. it's kinda long. The part near the beginning where they poke through with the instruments helps me understand why I hurt.

I was actually planning on having video of the whole laparoscopy of my own for you here exclusively, but after the surgery the doctor suddenly had second thoughts on giving me or even letting me see the video. For this and other sketchy tales, stay tuned...

Wow. Ouch! You are now the first person of my generation that I "know" who has had their appendix removed. I have avtually wondered for years whether there has been some change in the world because everyone my parents' ages had theirs removed and no one in our generation has. Did the dr. saywhy or is it just an inexplicable thing?

Well I was in _a lot_ of pain and had some of the symptoms of appendicitis. So when in doubt they just go in as soon and possible fearing it could burst. They didn't speculate on the specific cause of the inflamed appendix. Scarily, I have had similar episodes once every 12-18 months for the last 10 years, but this was the worst and drove me to the ER.

Ooh, hope your recovery is speedy! Embarrassing story: I had laparoscopic surgery and the same array of bandages you have. I didn't see under them until a couple of days later but until I took off the belly button bandage, I thought that they puffed up my abdomen so much in the surgery that I got an outie!!! Doh!! It was a relief when I took the thing off and saw it was just a cotton ball stuck in there. Not that I have anything against outies but I didn't want to deal with any more changes on top of the scars.

yikers. you have definitely exceeded my expectations for post-op pictures. the video was also a nice touch - although it would have been cooler if it had actually been yours.

when are you up and eating bacon again?
